Guppi was born from the creative vision of Rommi Hassanain, a Kentucky-born, Cairo-raised artist with a deep passion for design and quality craftsmanship. In 2022, Rommi set out to create a bag that would stand out—a piece that would celebrate individuality while embracing the durability and elegance that only handmade artistry can offer.

The journey began in Khaymeya, a vibrant area in Cairo renowned for its skilled local artisans who craft brilliant textile quilts and work with thick, durable canvas. It was here that Rommi met Magdy, a talented textile maker. Together, they transformed Rommi’s designs into tangible works of art. We sourced the finest materials, honoring the rich textile heritage of Egypt while prioritizing sustainability and durability. With every stitch, we aim to celebrate the hands that create, the culture that inspires, and the stories that connect us all.

Guppi isn’t just about bags; it’s about community, heritage, and a shared commitment to conscious, thoughtful design. We invite you to carry a piece of this journey with you, wherever you go.

Why the name Guppi? Inspired by the Guppy fish—colorful, unique, and hardy—each bag reflects these qualities, bringing a touch of the unexpected to everyday life. Every Guppi tote is handmade with care, combining modern style with traditional craftsmanship in a celebration of Egypt’s rich textile heritage.
